What is Imiquad (Imiquimod) used for?

Imiquad Cream (Imiquimod) is a topical immune response modifier prescribed to treat patients with external genital warts, basal carcinomas, or actinic keratosis. The medication operates by boosting the action of the immune system to help eliminate the growth of abnormal cells. Your doctor may also recommend its use for the treatment of other unlisted conditions.

How should I use Imiquad (Imiquimod)?

Imiquad Cream (Imiquimod) should be used according to your doctor`s instructions and those included with the packaging to get the most effective results from treatment. The contents of one sachet is normally administered to the affected area once daily, but your particular directions will depend on your current age, weight, health, and the severity of your symptoms. These should be applied by thoroughly washing and drying the area being treated, opening one sachet, squeezing its contents onto the area, and gently massaging it into the skin. Thoroughly wash your hands with soap and water after each administration to prevent the medication from contacting any areas not being treated or the mucous membranes. Never use this medication to treat internal genital warts.

What are the side effects of Imiquad (Imiquimod)?

Imiquad Cream (Imiquimod) may cause side effects in some patients such as:

  • Headaches
  • Dizziness or drowsiness
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Upset stomach or diarrhoea
  • Mild skin irritation or redness
  • Dry or flaking skin affecting the area of application
  • Changes in skin colour
  • Cold sores
  • Chest or back pain
  • Vaginal irritation or discharge

Serious side effects that may require immediate medical attention are fever, flu symptoms, or signs of an allergic reaction such as severe skin reactions, hives, swelling, or difficulty breathing. Contact your doctor as soon as possible if you experience any intense or worrying symptoms to make sure the necessary adjustment are made to your application frequency or dosage to stop further health complications from occurring.

Please Note

Imiquad (Imiquimod) should never be applied to skin that is broken, severely damaged, or close to the mucous membranes. The medication should not be used by patients who are under the age of eighteen or to treat genital warts inside the genitals. Also inform your doctor if you are taking immunosuppressants, have a weakened immune system, low blood cell counts, inflammatory skin conditions, if you have recently had an organ transplant, or if you are an uncircumcised man with genital warts under the foreskin. These conditions may cause unexpected problems requiring special adjustments to your regimen.

Strictly use Imiquad (Imiquimod) as prescribed and follow all instructions provided by your doctor. Safe, suitable, and optimum dosage can vary and is dependent on the patient`s health and medical history, as well as the condition you are treating.

Imiquad (Imiquimod) may not be safe or suitable for all patients. Always ensure your doctor is informed if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, using any other type of medication (including non-prescription medicine, vitamins, and supplements), as well as if you have any allergies, other illnesses, or pre-existing medication conditions.

Seek immediate medical attention or proceed to your nearest accident and emergency department if you suffer a hypersensitive or allergic reaction. Symptoms usually present during a reaction of this nature include difficulty breathing or swallowing, swelling of the limbs or face, tight chest, hives, and skin rashes.
