What is Gabapin (Gabapentin) used for?

Gabapin (Gabapentin) is an anti-epileptic medication prescribed to treat epilepsy or partial seizures. It operates by preventing the action of neurotransmitters released from certain nerves from causing seizures. This action may also make it useful for treating nerve pain caused by the herpes virus or to prevent migraines. Your doctor may also prescribe its use for the treatment of other conditions that are not listed here.

How should I use Gabapin (Gabapentin)?

Gabapin (Gabapentin) should be used according to your doctor`s instructions to get the safest and most effective results from treatment. One tablet is normally taken one to three times each day depending on your age, weight, health condition, and the severity of your symptoms. These should be swallowed with a full glass of water and may be taken with or without food. A meal or snack may be suggested prior to use if you get an upset stomach. Do not change the form of the tablets by crushing or splitting them as this may destroy or alter the effects of their contents.

What are the side effects of Gabapin (Gabapentin)?

Gabapin (Gabapentin) may cause side effects in some patients including:

  • Headaches
  • Drowsiness or dizziness
  • Dry mouth
  • Upset stomach or diarrhoea
  • Unusual swelling of the hands or feet

Serious side effects that may require immediate medical attention are increased seizures, sensitive skin, easier bruising, chest pain, irregular heartbeats, trouble breathing, confusion, fever, flu symptoms, severe stomach pain, darkened urine, discoloured stools, jaundice, or severe skin rashes. Contact your doctor if you experience any worrying symptoms to make sure the correct alterations are made to your application frequency or dosage to stop more health problems from occurring.

Please Note

Gabapin (Gabapentin) should not be used by patients who are pregnant, breastfeeding, lactose intolerant, allergic to gabapentin, or who have had a bad reaction to similar treatments in the past. Also inform your doctor if you have diabetes or decreased kidney function as these conditions may cause unexpected health problems requiring adjustments to your regimen.

Strictly use Gabapin (Gabapentin) as prescribed and follow all instructions provided by your doctor. Safe, suitable, and optimum dosage can vary and is dependent on the patient`s health and medical history, as well as the condition you are treating.

Gabapin (Gabapentin) may not be safe or suitable for all patients. Always ensure your doctor is informed if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, using any other type of medication (including non-prescription medicine, vitamins, and supplements), as well as if you have any allergies, other illnesses, or pre-existing medication conditions.

Seek immediate medical attention or proceed to your nearest accident and emergency department if you suffer a hypersensitive or allergic reaction. Symptoms usually present during a reaction of this nature include difficulty breathing or swallowing, swelling of the limbs or face, tight chest, hives, and skin rashes.
