What is Pantoprazole Actavis (Pantoprazole Sodium Sesquihydrate) used for?

If you suffer from acid refulx (reflux disease), stomach and dudenal ulcers, or Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, Pantoprazole Actavis can help relieve symptoms by reducing the amount of acid in your stomach. Pantoprazole Actavis is a proton pump inhibitor, which reduces the amount of hydrochloric acid secreted by the parietal cells.

The parietal cells in the stomach create hydrochloric acid. Sometimes the amount of acid created its too great or can trigger other symptoms. Pantoprazole inhibits the proton pumps in the parietal cells and reduce the amount of acid.

How should I use Pantoprazole Actavis (Pantoprazole Sodium Sesquihydrate)?

Swallow Pantoprazoloe Actavis tablets whole with a glass of water. For best results, take the tablet an hour before eating a meal.

Please us the following as guidelines or Pantoprazole Actavis dosage, but contact your doctor for your specific dosage requirements.

  • For acid reflex: usually you will need to take one tablet a day, for 4 to 8 weeks. In some cases you may need to take two tablets per day./li>
  • For stomach or duodenal ulcers: usually you will need to take one tablet a day. For stomach ulcers you will need to do so for 4 to 8 weeks. For duodenal ulcers you will need to do so for 2 to 4 weeks.
  • For Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome: usually you will take two tablets daily. Sometimes you may need to take two tablets twice a day.

What are the side effects of Pantoprazole Actavis (Pantoprazole Sodium Sesquihydrate)?

Mild side effects may occur taking Pantoprazole Actavis. These are usually temporary and you should only need to contact a doctor if they persist. Headaches and gastrointestinal disorders such as nausea, stomach pain, excessing gas, vomiting or diarrhea are the most common side effects associated with Pantoprzaole Actavis. Contact your doctor if the persist or become a worry to you.

You should contact your doctor if you notice any of the following side effects:

  • excessive or unusual tiredness or weakness
  • jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes)
  • Skin problems (itchiness; rash; swelling, blistering or peeling of the skin)
  • sweeling in of the face, lips, tongue or throat
  • fever or infection
  • chest pain
  • shortness of breath
  • hypertension (high blood pressure)
  • swelling of the legs
  • excessive bleeding or bruising
  • depression, anxiety or other mental disorders

Please Note

Pantoprazole Actavis must not be taken by anybody with an allergy to pantoprazole or any beta blockers. It must also not be taken by anybody who is allergic to any of the excipients (sodium carbonate, anhydrous, mannitol, sodium starch glycollate (Type A), methacrylic acid, copolymer, calcium stearate, hypromellose, titanium dioxide, purified talc, macrogol 400, sodium lauryl sulfate or Kollicoat MAE 30 DP dark yellow).

Anybody with liver problems, including cirrhosis of the liver must not take Pantoprazole Actavis.

It is important to let you doctor know of any medicines (prescription and non-prescription drugs, herbal treatments or supplements) you are taking. If you are pregnant, trying to become pregnant, or breast-feeding please let your doctor know this before taking Pantoprazole Actavis.
