What is Lithicarb FC (Lithium Carbonate) used for?

Lithicarb FC (Lithium Carbonate) is an oral medication used to treat patients suffering from depression, bipolar disorder, or thoughts of self harm. It operates by balancing the level of neurotransmitters in the brain to prevent feelings of guilt, feelings of worthlessness, manic thoughts, anxiety, or drowsiness. Your doctor may also prescribe this medication for the treatment of other unlisted conditions.

How should I use Lithicarb FC (Lithium Carbonate)?

Lithicarb FC (Lithium Carbonate) is normally administered one to four times each day at a dosage of one tablet, but your individual instructions will be determined by your age, weight, current health, the condition being treated, and the severity of your symptoms. The tablets should be swallowed whole and unaltered with a large glass of water and may be taken on an empty stomach, although a snack or meal is suggested prior to use if you experience nausea. Do not split, chew, or crush the tablets before use to avoid destroying or changing the effects of their contents. Do not alter your dosage or frequency of administration unless instructed to by your doctor as this may cause unexpected problems or lithium toxicity.

What are the side effects of Lithicarb FC (Lithium Carbonate)?

Side effects that may occur while using Lithicarb FC (Lithium Carbonate) include:

  • Weakness or fatigue
  • Mild nausea or vomiting
  • Upset stomach or loss of appetite
  • Mild tremors in the hands
  • Mild skin irritation or itchiness
  • Thinning hair

Contact your doctor as soon as you experience any intense or worrying symptom such as severe fatigue, faintness, discolouration of the fingers or toes, fever, flu symptoms, hallucinations, muscle stiffness, seizures, or signs of lithium toxicity such as muscle weakness, tremors, blurry vision, or tinnitus. These conditions may cause unexpected problems during treatment requiring special alterations to your regimen.

Please Note

Lithicarb FC (Lithium Carbonate) should not be used by patients who are breastfeeding, children or young children, or patients who have low sodium levels, hypothyroidism, heart disease, or decreased kidney function. You are also suggested to inform your doctor if you are elderly, have psoriasis, or myasthenia gravis as these conditions may cause unexpected health problems during treatment requiring special adjustments to your treatment.

Strictly use Lithicarb FC (Lithium Carbonate) as prescribed and follow all instructions provided by your doctor. Safe, suitable, and optimum dosage can vary and is dependent on the patient`s health and medical history, as well as the condition you are treating.

Lithicarb FC (Lithium Carbonate) may not be safe or suitable for all patients. Always ensure your doctor is informed if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, using any other type of medication (including non-prescription medicine, vitamins, and supplements), as well as if you have any allergies, other illnesses, or pre-existing medication conditions.

Seek immediate medical attention or proceed to your nearest accident and emergency department if you suffer a hypersensitive or allergic reaction. Symptoms usually present during a reaction of this nature include difficulty breathing or swallowing, swelling of the limbs or face, tight chest, hives, and skin rashes.
