What is Serenace (Haloperidol) used for?

Serenace (Haloperidol) is an oral antipsychotic medication prescribed to treat patients suffering from schizophrenia. It operates by balancing the levels of naturally occurring chemicals in the brain to prevent symptoms such as disorganized thinking, anxiety, paranoia, agitation, or disorganized thinking. This function may also make it useful for treating manic episodes, involuntary muscle twitching, paranoia, psychosis, or short term management of severe agitation. Your doctor may prescribe it for the treatment of other unlisted conditions, as well.

How should I use Serenace (Haloperidol)?

Serenace (Haloperidol) should always be used according to your doctor`s instructions to get the best results from treatment. One tablet is normally taken each day, but your individual instructions will depend on your current health condition and the severity of your symptoms. These should be swallowed whole along with a large glass of water, but a meal or snack is recommended prior to use if you get an upset stomach. Never split, crush, or chew the tablets before use to avoid destroying or altering the effects of their contents. Ask your pharmacist or doctor any questions you have about using the medication to ensure the correct administration.

What are the side effects of Serenace (Haloperidol)?

The use of Serenace (Haloperidol) may cause side effects in some patients such as:

  • Headaches
  • Dizziness or drowsiness
  • Anxiety or insomnia
  • Mild skin rash or irritation
  • Urinary retention
  • Swelling or enlargement of the breast area
  • Decreased sex drive

Serious side effects that may require immediate medical assistance include tremors, dizziness, sensitive skin, easier bruising, stiff or sore muscles, unusual mood changes, severe chest pain, or jaundice. Contact your doctor as soon as you experience any worrying symptoms to make sure the correct changes are made to your application frequency or dosage to prevent further health problems from occurring.

Please Note

Do not begin using Serenace (Haloperidol) if you have heart failure, Parkinson`s disease, abnormal heart rhythms, low potassium levels, or if the patient being treated is in a comatose state. You are also advised to inform your doctor if you have heart disease, depression, epilepsy, withdrawal from alcohol, a history of blood clots, dementia, a risk of stroke, long-term alcoholism, malnourished, dehydration, a tumour affecting the adrenal gland, kidney failure, or liver failure. These conditions may cause unexpected problems during treatment requiring special adjustments to your regimen.

Strictly use Serenace (Haloperidol) as prescribed and follow all instructions provided by your doctor. Safe, suitable, and optimum dosage can vary and is dependent on the patient`s health and medical history, as well as the condition you are treating.

Serenace (Haloperidol) may not be safe or suitable for all patients. Always ensure your doctor is informed if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, using any other type of medication (including non-prescription medicine, vitamins, and supplements), as well as if you have any allergies, other illnesses, or pre-existing medication conditions.

Seek immediate medical attention or proceed to your nearest accident and emergency department if you suffer a hypersensitive or allergic reaction. Symptoms usually present during a reaction of this nature include difficulty breathing or swallowing, swelling of the limbs or face, tight chest, hives, and skin rashes.
