What is Zaditen Eye Drops (Ketotifen) used for?

Zaditen Eye Drops (Ketotifen) is anti-allergic eye drops prescribed for prevention and treatment of acute, subacute and chronic allergic conjunctivitis, keratoconjunctivitis, and seasonal (spring) conjunctivitis. Your doctor may also prescribe it for the treatment of other unlisted conditions.

Zaditen Eye Drops (Ketotifen) is anti-allergic, membrane stabilizing, antihistamines drug. It inhibits the release of histamine, leukotrienes, lymphokines and other biologically active substances from mast cells and basophils. It is not competitively blocking H1-histamine receptors, inhibits phosphodiesterase, and increases cAMP levels in cells. Zaditen Eye Drops (Ketotifen) suppresses the sensitization of eosinophils with recombinant human cytokines and their accumulation in target organs.

How should I use Zaditen Eye Drops (Ketotifen)?

Strictly follow your doctor`s instructions for using Zaditen Eye Drops (Ketotifen) to get the most effective results from treatment. Most often adults and children over 12 years of age are given 1 drop in each eye 2 times a day.

Preventive administration under acute and chronic processes should start in 3 weeks before contact with allergen. Treatment continues throughout the exposure time of allergens. Duration depends on the type and severity of the disease.

It is suggested to gently shake the bottle before each use to mix its contents. Open the top, hold the applicator above the affected eye, gently pull down the lower lid of the eye, and dispense one drop into the pouch that is formed. Slowly close the eyelid to spread the medication and keep the eye closed for fifteen to thirty seconds to allow it to be absorbed.

What are the side effects of Zaditen Eye Drops (Ketotifen)?

Some patients may experience side effects while using Zaditen Eye Drops (Ketotifen) such as:

  • Burning sensation and tingling in the eyes
  • Blurred vision immediately after ingestion
  • Irritation of the mucous membrane of the eye

Please Note

In acute inflammation and in the period of exacerbation of the chronic process, it is possible to use the drug in combination with corticosteroids. It is necessary to use the drug regularly. Treatment begins before contact with the allergen and lasts the entire period of the allergen.

The use of the drug during breastfeeding is recommended only by the appointment of a doctor.

At simultaneous application of ketotifenum and antihistamines the potentiation effect is possible.

Simultaneous administration with oral antidiabetic drugs increases the possibility of developing thrombocytopenia.

For some time after being applied to the eye, it is necessary to refrain from performing work that requires increased attention.
