What is QVIR Kit (Atazanavir/Ritonavir/Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate/Emtricitabine) used for?

QVIR Kit is a kit of two tablets containing four different antiretroviral medicines. It is indicated in the treatment of HIV infection (Human Immunodeficiency Virus infection) in adults and adolescents aged 12 and over. One tablet contains Atazanavir and Ritonavir (both protease inhibitors), the other contains Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate and Emtricabine (nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors). By exhibiting two different mechanisms of action, QVIR can work more effectively than one medicine alone.

How should I use QVIR Kit (Atazanavir/Ritonavir/Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate/Emtricitabine)?

Each blister strip of QVIR contains two different tablets:

• atazanavir 300mg + ritonavir 100mg
• emtricabine 200mg + tenofovir disoproxil fumarate 300mg

QVIR is designed so that most people will take one kit (both tablets) daily, however some people may require a different dosage.

QVIR should be taken with food.

What are the side effects of QVIR Kit (Atazanavir/Ritonavir/Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate/Emtricitabine)?

The most common side effects associated with the ingredients in QVIR are:

• nausea
• jaundice
• scleral icterus
• rash.

Tell your doctor if you feel unwell or develop any other side effects while taking QVIR.

Before taking QVIR:

• Tell your doctor of all medicine (prescription and over-the-counter) that you are taking, especially if you are taking any other HIV medicines.
• Tell your doctor if this is not your first HIV infection.
• Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, trying to become pregnant, or are breast feeding.
• Tell your doctor if you have hepatitis B (HBV) infection.
