What is Depsol (Imipramine HCL) used for?

Depsol (Imipramine HCL) is an oral tricyclic antidepressant used to treat patients who are suffering from depression. It balances levels of naturally occurring chemicals in the brain to prevent symptoms associated with this condition such as anxiety, feelings of worthlessness, feelings of guilt, or fatigue. This action may also make it useful for treating bedwetting in children over the age of seven. Your doctor may prescribe it for other unlisted purposes, as well.

How should I use Depsol (Imipramine HCL)?

Depsol (Imipramine HCL) is normally taken once daily at a dosage of one tablet, but the best regimen will be determined by your doctor based on your health condition and the severity of your symptoms. These should be swallowed with a full cup of water and may be taken on an empty stomach, although a snack or meal is recommended before use if you get an upset stomach. These should never be altered by splitting or crushing them as this may destroy or alter the effects of their contents. Ask your doctor any questions you have about the medicine to make sure you are using it correctly.

What are the side effects of Depsol (Imipramine HCL)?

Side effects that may occur while using Depsol (Imipramine HCL) include:

  • Dry mouth
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Upset stomach, diarrhoea, or constipation
  • Tingling sensations
  • Blurry vision
  • Swelling of the breast area
  • Tinnitus (Ringing in the ears)
  • Decreased sex drive, impotence, or trouble having an orgasm

Stop using the medication and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any unusual side effects such as fever, flu symptoms, faintness, irregular heartbeats, chest pain, trouble breathing, confusion, hallucinations, sensitive skin, easier bruising, seizures, or jaundice. These conditions may require lower doses, reduced frequency of administration, or emergency medical attention in serious cases to prevent further health problems from occurring.

Please Note

Depsol (Imipramine HCL) should not be used by patients who are children, who have recently had a heart attack, who have closed angle glaucoma, heart block, an irregular heart rate, or who have taken an MAOI medication within the last two weeks. It is also recommended to inform your doctor if you have hyperthyroidism, hypotension, a tumour affecting the adrenal gland, bipolar disorder, an enlarged prostate, a history of epilepsy, schizophrenia, glaucoma, a history of seizures, urinary retention, diabetes, heart disease, liver function, or kidney function. These conditions may cause unexpected complications requiring special alterations to your regimen.

Strictly use Depsol (Imipramine HCL) as prescribed and follow all instructions provided by your doctor. Safe, suitable, and optimum dosage can vary and is dependent on the patient`s health and medical history, as well as the condition you are treating.

Depsol (Imipramine HCL) may not be safe or suitable for all patients. Always ensure your doctor is informed if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, using any other type of medication (including non-prescription medicine, vitamins, and supplements), as well as if you have any allergies, other illnesses, or pre-existing medication conditions.

Seek immediate medical attention or proceed to your nearest accident and emergency department if you suffer a hypersensitive or allergic reaction. Symptoms usually present during a reaction of this nature include difficulty breathing or swallowing, swelling of the limbs or face, tight chest, hives, and skin rashes.
